Welcome To The Home Of It’s Not That Bad
It’s the show that does its best to defend the unfairly maligned movies, to find the silver linings in the films deemed “less than great”. Every week, host Jason Whissell is joined by a guest to discuss a movie that has been poorly rated by the critics or by the fans. We do our very best to find good things to say about them, and to show those flicks in a light that you may have not noticed before. We are also always happy to hear what movies you think should be covered, as well as what you thought of the movies themselves. We’ll be posting blogs on here as well as keep you updated as to what to expect in the coming months.

Ep. 145 – Speed Racer

Picture it…it’s Saturday morning, the TV is on and you have your Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars out while eating a bowl of cereal and making vroom-vroom noises. Now, imagine it’s 2008, and you’re doing the same thing. Not as pretty a picture when you’re older, is it? Don’t worry…we won’t hold it against you. But, we will tell you that Speed Racer is not that bad.

Ep. 143 – Broken Arrow

There was a time when airplane movies were all the rage, the threat of nuclear missiles was everywhere and action films were the dominant force at the box office. That time was called the 80’s. 1996…not so much. Still, that doesn’t mean it was going to scale down on the explosions. Time to put $20 down and see if Broken Arrow is not that bad.

There Can Only Be One – Paramore

There are one of the most influential pop-punk bands to come out since the turn of the century. Now, Joseph Whalen returns to go through the discography of Paramore, as we try to decode which song stands above the others.
Below, you’ll see the playlists made from both Joseph and myself. A few notes…because The Summer Tic EP is not available on Spotify at all, Joseph’s pick from that album is not on his list. For myself, because I chose Emergency (Crab Mix), I put the original from All We Know Is Falling so at least you can hear the original. In the meantime, once you’re done listening to the episode, have a listen to our picks, and be sure to let us know in the comments below which songs would have made your list.

Mock-tober Is Coming
If you haven’t figured out, after 3 years and over 200 episodes, we have a serious liking for “bad” movies. Up until now, we’ve stuck pretty close to our goal of finding the good things to say about many of the films we’ve covered, but we haven’t really delved into the “Mockbuster” just yet. But, what is a mockbuster? To quote Wikipedia…

So, because we do love a challenge here, we have dedicated October to be a 5-week celebration of the Mockbuster. Here are the 5 films we’ll be discussing in October…

October 2 – Transmorphers
This is going to be a fun one. I grew up as a Transformers kid (admittedly, I still am one too), so rest assured this will have my attentions right off the bat.
October 9 – Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies
What better way to celebrate a presidential election year than by going back in time to the untold story of how Lincoln killed the zombies. That’s in the history books, right?

October 16 – American Warships
I know we haven’t covered Battleship yet, but we’ll want to make sure all our bases are covered. Mid-month, we’ll hit the open sea and pray that we have a life jacket. Big things are bound to go boom.
October 23 – Cocaine Shark
Cocaine Shark-do-do-da-do-do-do, Cocaine Shark-do-do-da-do-do-do, Cocaine Shark-do-do-da-do-do-do, Cocaine Shark.

October 30 – Paranormal Entity
Lo and behold, a two-fer celebration at the end of the month. A mockbuster designed to scare the socks off you. Okay, it’s probably not scary…and you may not be wearing socks. But still…there is no better way to end the “Month Of Mock” than with a frightfest.
And, there you have it. The 5 movies that will make up Mocktober. Now, here’s where you come in. We want to celebrate with you. So, If you’ve seen any of these movies, let us know in the comments below what you thought of them. We want to shout you out, so be sure to drop us a line.
